Tina Cowley Reading Centre– Ballito Buzz, Ballito Business Park – Leanie van der Walt

From a busy lawyer practicing in Sandton to a Tina Cowley franchise owner in Ballito. “I have been very blessed and believe the core qualification required before starting a business is to establish the need for your product.  Location and the need for a business such as this is very important and Ballito, being one of the fastest developing areas according to STATS SA report in 2015, has been a good choice.  ComProp has been amazing in assisting me find the right property and this makes all the difference to the end product of success. If the property you are situated in is tailored for your needs and the product you deliver shows results, it has to be a winning recipe”.

“I am driven by results and adding value to young souls.  By teaching kids how to read we assist them to be better students and a whole new world opens up to them. With proper reading skills and results comes confidence and a better all rounded child. There is no bigger gift a parent can give a child than the skills to study and be successful, and this is all grounded in the way we read.”

Scoop – Litchi Orchard, Salt Rock – Amanda Maidman

Scoop Ice Creams was launched in Amanda’s kitchen in 2014. “We are a small, handmade ice cream business, based at the beautiful Litchi Orchard in Salt Rock. We use locally sourced seasonal produce and make a range of ice creams & sorbets, ice cream cakes & vanilla sugar cones, all of which are free of preservatives, colourants, stabilisers and other nasties.”

“Having spent all of my working life in the UK restaurant industry, where plenty of feet pass your door every day, the prospect of starting up a business in a relatively small town in SA, especially during an economic downturn, could have been a daunting one, but I decided to use this to my advantage.”

“Offering a unique product and delivering great service in a community, where everyone knows just about everyone, has meant we have benefited from the best type of marketing  out there -  word of mouth.”

Scoop has grown steadily over the past 2 years to now include a second shop at Heron Dam in Simbithi Eco Estate and they also supply a number of popular restaurants on the North Coast and in Umhlanga Rocks.
